A second girl died over the weekend after an apartment fire in Pomona last week killed her sister, officials and family members told KTLA Tuesday.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help the family with funeral expenses.

The blaze was reported about 10:30 a.m. April 16 at the apartment unit on the first floor of a two-story complex at 1118 E. Franklin Ave., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Responding firefighters found “heavy fire” burning through the building, and the girls were stuck in a bedroom, officials said.

“Unfortunately, a swift escape through a bedroom window was hampered by furniture and exterior mounted window A/C unit,” fire officials said in a news release that day.

One girl, identified as 17-year-old Thay Hung Leyva, was killed, and a second was taken to a hospital in grave condition.

The girls’ grandmother was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries, according to the GoFundMe page.

Thay’s younger sister, 13-year-old Rosemery Gallo Leyva, died Saturday, family members said in the fundraising page.

A memorial was set up for the sisters in front of their burned apartment, video from the scene Monday showed.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

The GoFundMe page also states that the “loss of both girls was too much to bear” for their mother and stepfather, and “that they took their own lives.”
