Magnitude 5.3 quake hits 30 miles northeast of Mammoth Lakes

A magnitude 5.3 earthquake hit about 30 miles northeast of Mammoth Lakes on Saturday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

It struck at 7:36 a.m. near the California-Nevada border with a depth of about 6.2 miles, according to USGS.

A magnitude 4.1 quake, initially recorded at 4.4, hit last Sunday about 40 miles directly south of the new temblor.
