Vallarta Supermarkets and Stater Bros. Markets have announced longer opening hours for their stores, including those in Pasadena, to allow more customers access to grocery shopping as the COVID-19 emergency extends.

Vallarta, one of the largest Latino-owned supermarket chains in California, said they will be staying open an extra hour and close at 9 p.m. to better accommodate shoppers and the practice of social distancing in their stores.

Vallarta stores will continue their practice of allowing seniors, aged 65 and above, pregnant women and persons with disabilities exclusive shopping time from 7 to 8 a.m. The general public can shop from 8 a.m. up to 9 p.m.

For the safety of its customers and team members, Vallarta encourages customers to shop alone and wear a face mask or face covering and maintain at least six feet apart from others when shopping in their stores.

The chain said these new operating hours apply to all of its 50 supermarkets in California, except North Hollywood which will close at 8 p.m.

The change inn operating hours will be effective until further notice, the company said.

“We are dedicated to serving our community by offering our valued customers additional time to shop for their essential needs,” Pete Van Helden, Stater Bros. CEO, said.

Stater Bros. said they will continue to take preventive measures to protect the health and safety of customers and employees. All employees are required to wear face coverings, plexiglass barriers have been installed on all checkstands, and social distancing and sanitation protocols will be maintained throughout the day.

The company will continue to follow the guidance provided by health professionals and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the statement said.
